Airborne Data Acquisition Units (DAU) XMA Series

The XMA DAU system from Safran Data Systems provides Data Acquisition from a range of sources and provides numerous application possibilities in the field of flight test instrumentation.


Comprising of a core unit which consists of a power supply and PCU, acqusition modules are added to suit the requirements of the test. 

Two XMA core versions allow you to create:

  • Small to medium data acquisition unit (up to 8 modules)

XMA Core8

  • 1 Central Processing Unit
  • 1 Power Supply
  • 1 cover plate to enclose the module stack
  • Medium to large data acquisition unit (up to 16 modules)

XMA Core16

  • 1 Central Processing Unit
  • 2 Power Supplies


The XMA is designed for airborne flight test applications and can be located close to the sensors.  The sensor data is encoded into a PCM data stream or IRIG-106 Chapter 10 data packet for recording and/or telemetry to ground.  The XMA makes an ideal remote data acqusition for the Safran Modular Data Recorder (MDR).


There are a number of modules available for XMA including 8-channels (fully user configurable) analogue input (ANA), 8-channel serial/discrete inputs (RSD), ethernet and ethernet switching (NEX and ETH), military data bus, MIL-STD-1553 (MIL) and ARINC 429 digital data bus (ARC).  All XMA modules have a 2" x 3" form factor and incorporate the same form field workable connector.  This is critical for ease of integration in existing flight test networks.
